Illuminations: Web Link Review

Web Link Review

Olympic Records Through Time

Resource Type: Lessons

This lesson has students research an Olympic sport of his or her choice over the span of the Olympics. Students will be exposed to gathering, interpreting, and analyzing data as they search through the links provided on this Webpage to find out what changes have taken place in the winning times of the sport he or she has chosen. After the students have located their data, they are asked to make a graph to assist in analyzing the data. They look for trends and make hypotheses about what is happening. This exploration activity is an interesting way to encourage students to look for patterns and make hypotheses from collected data.
